Automotive Technology
Program Description
As automobiles become more complex and expensive, the need for skilled technicians will also continue to be in demand. This program prepares the student for entry-level employment in the field of automotive repair and maintenance.

The course is organized around the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) testing program. The areas of demonstrated competence include:

  • Safety
  • Tools
  • Brake system
  • Suspension System
  • Electrical System
  • Engine Performance
  • Manuel Drive Trans and Axel
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Steering
Other areas of study include:
Applied Math
Applied Communication
Directed Study

The course is nine months in length, approximately 1080 clock hours, 5 days a week, including holidays and vacation time. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. at the Hillyard Technical Center.

In the shop, students receive hands-on experience in the proper method of repairs and preventive maintenance on all mechanical and electrical parts of the automobile, utilizing the most modern testing equipment. They learn to use sophisticated equipment, including brake lathes, front-end machines, and the latest computer diagnostic equipment.
